How we started – Its Friday and our founder David popped out of his office at lunchtime to take his mountain bike to have the brakes bled before a race he was taking part in that weekend. Imagine his disappointment when the bike shop told him that they could make an appointment to have that done, in 6 weeks time! He had no choice but to bleed the brakes himself late that night and realised that there was a gap in the market!
Our business was born out of the need for hassle free cycle maintenance in a world with increasingly busy lives and little free time. People want to enjoy their precious spare time as much as possible, the ‘weekend warriors’ mountain biking, the ‘mamils’ getting as many road miles in as possible when the weather permits and of course those who just rely on their bike as their main mode of transport. No one enjoys having to take a sick or injured bike to have it fixed, let alone having to take time off from work, put it into the car, and drive it there.
Our bike servicing packages include free collection and delivery of your bike from your place of work or home between 9am and 9pm, 6 days per week. We have a fleet of courtesy bikes, which can be borrowed if required, and we guarantee a turn around within 48 hours.
More than two million people across the country now cycle at least once a week, an all-time high according to British Cycling, the sport’s governing body in the UK.
But while a growing number of women and young adults are indeed taking up cycling, you cannot ignore the mamils. With more disposable income that younger riders, they are the group that spends the most on their bikes, buying the ultra-lightweight carbon models, with the best gears and other high-end components.
And such is the continuing popularity of cycling among men over 40, that it has often been said in recent years that cycling is “the new golf”, with cycle rides replacing rounds of golf as the preferred out-of-office activity during which business deals are agreed.
In addition to this we cannot forget the health and wellbeing benefits everyone is now becoming more aware of and that’s on top of economic and environmental benefits of cycling.
According to Mintel, the UK cycling market is likely to grow at around 3% making it worth a predicted £1.25 billion by 2021.
